South Carolina Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

30 Hours every 2 years - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 30 contact hours of acceptable continuing education are required every renewal period (biennium).
• Online/Self-Study: South Carolina does not limit the number of hours taken through online or home-study courses. You may complete your entire 30-hour requirement via approved online methods.
• Mandatory Topics: Currently, there are 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no ethics or human trafficking requirement) for Respiratory Care Practitioners. You may select any respiratory-related topics to fulfill your hours.
• Approved Providers: Courses should be approved by the AARC, the South Carolina Society for Respiratory Care (SCSRC), or the AMA. Most standard AARC-approved web courses are accepted.
• New Licensees: If this is your first renewal, you are typically exempt from the continuing education requirements for that initial period.

South Carolina License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire on May 31st of every odd-numbered year (e.g., 2025, 2027).
2. Renewal Window: The renewal period typically opens in April (approx. 6-8 weeks before expiration).
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the LLR Licensee Portal (Labor, Licensing and Regulation).
4. Fees: The biennial renewal fee is approximately $75.00. (Late renewals incur a significant penalty fee, often an additional $65+).
5. CE Broker: South Carolina uses CE Broker to track continuing education compliance. While not strictly mandatory to have a *paid* account, creating a free account to verify your hours are recorded is highly recommended.
6. Audit: The Board conducts random audits. If audited, you must produce certificates of completion for your 30 hours.
