Oregon Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

7 Hours every 1 year - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 7 contact hours of continuing education are required annually (every year).
• Clinical Requirement: At least 2.5 hours of the required 7 hours must be related to the clinical practice of respiratory care.
• Cultural Competency: You must complete 1 Hour of Cultural Competency Continuing Education (CCCE) every other renewal cycle (Biennially). This is *in addition* to your 7 annual hours. The course should be approved by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA).
• Online/Self-Study: Oregon does not limit the number of hours taken through online or home-study courses. You may complete all 7 hours via approved online methods.
• Life Support Exclusions: As of Jan 2014, CE credits are no longer given for CPR, BLS, ACLS, PALS, or NRP certification/recertification courses.
• Pain Management Note: While Oregon requires Pain Management training for many health professionals (like Nurses and Physicians), it is not currently listed as a mandatory annual requirement specifically for Respiratory Therapists on the HLO Board website. Always verify your specific renewal checklist.

Oregon License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire Annually on the last day of the month in which the license was originally issued. (e.g., If issued in March, your deadline is March 31st every year).
2. Renewal Window: You can renew your license up to 45 days prior to the expiration date.
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Oregon Health Licensing Office (HLO) online portal.
4. Fees: The standard annual renewal fee is approximately $50.00.
5. Late Renewal: If you renew after the expiration date, you may incur a late fee. You cannot practice with an expired license.
6. Audit: The Board conducts random audits. You must retain your CE documentation for at least 2 years following the renewal.
