Oklahoma Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

12 Hours every 2 years - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 12 contact hours of continuing education are required every renewal period (biennium).
• Clinical Requirement (The 50% Rule): At least half (6 hours) of the required hours must be directly related to clinical practice. The remaining hours can be in non-clinical areas (e.g., management, education, general healthcare).
• Online/Self-Study: Oklahoma does not limit the number of hours taken through online or home-study courses. You may complete all 12 hours via approved online methods (e.g., AARC approved webcasts or self-paced courses).
• Life Support Limits: You may claim credit for one life support course per compliance period. - ACLS, PALS, NRP, ATLS: 6 hours each. - BLS: 6 hours for *Initial* certification; 3 hours for *Recertification*.
• Mandatory Topics: There are currently 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no specific ethics or medical error requirement). However, ensuring 50% of your hours are clinical is mandatory.
• Approved Sponsors: Courses approved by the AARC (American Association for Respiratory Care) or the Oklahoma Society for Respiratory Care (OSRC) are accepted.

Oklahoma License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire every 2 years on the last day of the month in which the license was originally issued. (This is a dynamic deadline unique to you; check your license card).
2. Renewal Window: Renewal notices are typically mailed 60 days prior to the expiration date.
3. Official CE Tracking: The Oklahoma Medical Board uses CE Broker as the official CE tracking system. You should ensure your hours are reported to CE Broker.
4. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Oklahoma Medical Board online license renewal page.
5. Fees: The standard renewal fee is approximately $75.00.
6. Late Renewal: Licenses renewed after the expiration date are considered late and will incur a late fee. If a license lapses, reinstatement fees ($100+) apply.
