North Dakota Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

10 Hours every 1 year - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 10 contact hours of continuing education are required annually (every year).
• Online/Self-Study: North Dakota does not limit the number of hours taken through online or home-study courses. You may complete all 10 hours via approved online methods (e.g., AARC approved webcasts or self-paced courses).
• Mandatory Topics: There are currently 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no ethics or patient safety requirement) for standard renewal. Courses must simply be related to the practice of respiratory care.
• Approved Sponsors: Courses must be approved by the AARC (American Association for Respiratory Care) or the North Dakota State Board of Respiratory Care (NDSBRC). AARC-approved courses are automatically accepted.
• Reporting Period: CEUs must be earned within the calendar year prior to the renewal (January 1 – December 31).
• New Licensee Exemption: If you are initially licensed after November 1st of the current year, you are exempt from renewal (and CE requirements) for the upcoming January 31st deadline. You will renew for the first time the *following* year.

North Dakota License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire annually on January 31st.
2. Renewal Deadline (No Late Fee): To avoid a late fee, your renewal application and fee must be postmarked or submitted online by December 31st.
3. Late Renewal: If you renew between January 1st and January 31st, you will be charged a $25.00 Late Fee.
4. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the NDSBRC Online Renewal system.
5. Fees: The standard annual renewal fee is $80.00.
6. Audit: The Board conducts random audits. You are not required to upload certificates during renewal *unless* you are selected for an audit. You must retain your CE documentation for at least 1 year (though keeping them for 2-3 years is recommended).
