Nevada Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

20 Hours every 2 years - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 20 contact hours of acceptable continuing education are required every renewal period.
• Topic Split (60/40 Rule): Nevada uses a specific split for your 20 hours: 12 Hours (60%) must be directly related to the practice of respiratory care (Clinical), and 8 Hours (40%) may be general/non-clinical.
• Ethics Requirement: You must complete 2 hours in Medical Ethics. These hours count toward your 60% (Clinical) or 40% (General) total depending on the course content.
• Online/Self-Study: There is no limit on the number of hours taken through online or home-study courses. You may technically complete all 20 hours via approved online methods.
• Bioterrorism Note: While many Nevada health professions require a Bioterrorism course, this is not currently a recurring requirement for Respiratory Therapist renewal under NAC 630.530.
• Approved Sponsors: Courses must be approved by the AARC, AMA, American Thoracic Society, or other agencies listed in NAC 630.530.

Nevada License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire on June 30th of every odd-numbered year (e.g., 2025, 2027).
2. Renewal Window: The renewal period typically opens 60 days prior to the expiration date (Early May).
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners (NSBME) online portal (Thentia Cloud).
4. Fees: The standard renewal fee is $185.00.
5. Criminal Background Check: A fee for a background check ($75) is often assessed during renewal.
6. Audit: The Board conducts random audits. You must retain your CE certificates for at least 4 years (two full renewal cycles).
7. Late Renewal: If you fail to renew by June 30th, your license expires. Reinstatement within 2 years requires paying double the renewal fee plus the background check fee.
