Nebraska Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

20 Hours every 2 years - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 20 contact hours of acceptable continuing education are required every renewal period.
• Online/Home Study: Nebraska does not limit the number of hours taken through online or home-study courses. You may technically complete all 20 hours via approved online methods.
• Mandatory Topics: There are currently 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no specific ethics or human trafficking requirement) for Respiratory Care Practitioners. Courses must simply be relevant to the practice of respiratory care.
• Management Courses: A maximum of 4 hours can be claimed for courses related to management or administration.
• Life Support Certifications: You may claim credit for initial or recertification courses, but specific limits apply: - BLS/CPR: Max 1 hour. - ACLS/PALS/NRP: Max 12 hours for initial certification; Max 6 hours for recertification.
• Certification Exams: You can earn credit for passing NBRC specialty exams (e.g., NPS, CPFT, RPFT earn 10 hours; RRT earns 15 hours). This applies only if the exam is taken during the current renewal cycle.

Nebraska License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire on June 1st of every even-numbered year (e.g., 2024, 2026).
2. Renewal Window: Renewal notices are typically sent out 30-60 days prior to the expiration date.
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Nebraska DHHS Online Licensing Portal.
4. Fees: The renewal fee is approximately $118.00. (Fees are subject to change by DHHS).
5. Audit: The Board conducts random audits. You must retain your CE certificates for at least 4 years (two full renewal cycles).
6. Conviction Reporting: On your renewal application, you must disclose any misdemeanor or felony convictions that occurred during the renewal period.
