Missouri Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

24 Hours every 2 years - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 24 contact hours of continuing education are required every renewal period (biennium).
• Traditional / Live Hours: A minimum of 12 hours must be obtained through 'Traditional' programs. The Board defines this as a program attended either in person OR remotely via real-time telecommunication technology where the attendee can interact with and ask questions of the presenter (e.g., Live Webinars).
• Non-Traditional / Self-Study Limit: A maximum of 12 hours can be obtained through 'Non-Traditional' methods. This includes home-study courses with a testing mechanism, pre-recorded videos, or journal articles.
• Mandatory Topics: There are currently 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no ethics or patient safety requirement) for standard renewal. Courses must simply be relevant to the practice of respiratory care.
• First Renewal Exemption: Licensees are exempt from continuing education requirements for the first renewal period following their initial licensure. (e.g., If you were licensed in 2025, you do not need CEUs for the 2026 renewal).
• Reporting Period: CEUs must be earned within the 24-month period preceding the renewal (August 1 of even-numbered years to July 31 of the next even-numbered year).

Missouri License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire on July 31st of every even-numbered year (e.g., 2024, 2026).
2. Renewal Window: Renewal notices are typically mailed/emailed 30-60 days prior to the expiration date.
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Missouri Division of Professional Registration online portal (MOPRO). You will need your PIN and license number.
4. Fees: The standard renewal fee is approximately $30.00 - $75.00 (Fees are subject to change; check your renewal notice for the current exact amount).
5. Late Renewal: Renewals postmarked or submitted after July 31st are considered late and will incur a Late Penalty Fee. Failure to renew eventually causes the license to lapse.
6. Audit: The Board conducts random audits. You must retain your CE documentation for at least 4 years (two full reporting periods).
