Mississippi Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

20 Hours every 2 years - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 20 contact hours of continuing education are required every renewal period.
• Online/Self-Study: Mississippi does not limit the number of hours taken through online or home-study courses. You may complete all 20 hours via approved online methods (e.g., AARC approved webcasts or self-paced courses).
• Mandatory Topics: There are currently 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no ethics or patient safety requirement) for standard renewal. Courses must simply be related to the practice of respiratory care.
• Approved Sponsors: Courses must be approved by the AARC (American Association for Respiratory Care) or the Mississippi Society for Respiratory Care (MSRC).
• CE Broker Status: *Important Update:* As of late 2024, the Mississippi State Department of Health (Respiratory Care) is no longer utilizing CE Broker for mandatory tracking. You generally do not need to report hours to CE Broker for renewal, unlike Mississippi Nurses who still use it.

Mississippi License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire on August 31st of every odd-numbered year (e.g., 2025, 2027).
2. Renewal Window: Renewal notices are typically mailed or emailed 30 days prior to the expiration date.
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) Professional Licensure online portal.
4. Fees: The standard renewal fee is $100.00.
5. Late Renewal: If you fail to renew by August 31st, your license lapses. Reinstatement requires paying the renewal fee ($100) PLUS a reinstatement fee (typically $200.00), totaling $300.00.
6. Audit: The Board conducts random audits. You must retain your CE certificates for at least 2 years.
