Maine Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

• Total Requirement: The Maine Board of Respiratory Care Practitioners currently requires 0 continuing education hours to renew a Respiratory Therapist license.
• State vs. NBRC: While the state of Maine does not require CEUs for your license renewal, most employers (hospitals) require you to maintain your NBRC Credential (CRT/RRT) as a condition of employment. The NBRC requires 30 hours every 5 years to remain active.
• Employer Expectations: Do not assume that because the state requires zero hours, you can stop taking courses. Losing your NBRC credential due to lack of CEUs can lead to termination of employment in many Maine healthcare facilities.
• Mandatory Topics: There are 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no ethics or patient safety requirement) for license renewal.

Maine License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire Annually on April 30th.
2. Renewal Window: You can renew your license up to 60 days prior to the expiration date (starting March 1st).
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Maine Regulatory Licensing & Permitting online portal (ALMS).
4. Fees: The standard annual renewal fee is approximately $65.00.
5. Late Renewal: Licenses can be renewed late up to 90 days after expiration with a $50.00 late fee. If you renew more than 90 days late, you may need to re-apply for licensure.
6. Criminal Convictions: You must report any new criminal convictions or disciplinary actions taken against you since your last renewal.
