Louisiana Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

10 Hours every 1 year - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 10 contact hours of continuing education are required annually (every year).
• Online/Self-Study: Louisiana does not limit the number of hours taken through online or home-study courses. You may complete all 10 hours via approved online methods.
• Mandatory Topics (Recurring): There are currently 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no ethics or patient safety requirement) for standard recurring renewal. Courses must simply be approved by the Board or the AARC.
• Laws & Rules (First Renewal Only): Prior to your very first renewal of licensure, you must successfully complete a Board-approved course on Louisiana Laws and Rules for Respiratory Therapists.
• Approved Sponsors: Courses approved by the AARC (American Association for Respiratory Care) are automatically accepted by the Board.
• CE Broker: Louisiana is a mandatory CE Broker state. You must report your hours to CE Broker before you can renew your license. The Board's licensing system links with CE Broker to verify compliance.

Louisiana License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire Annually on the last day of your birth month.
2. Renewal Window: You should complete your CEUs and report them to CE Broker *before* attempting to renew.
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the LaMED DashBoard (LSBME Online Services).
4. Fees: The standard annual renewal fee is approximately $85.00. (Fees are subject to change by the LSBME).
5. CE Verification: You cannot proceed with renewal on the LaMED DashBoard if your CE Broker account does not show 100% compliance. Ensure your hours are posted before you pay.
6. Late Renewal: If you fail to renew by the end of your birth month, you may incur late fees. If the license remains expired for more than one year, you must apply for reinstatement.
