Kansas Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

12 Hours every 1 year - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 12 contact hours of continuing education are required every year (Annually).
• Live/Traditional Hours: A minimum of 6 hours must be obtained through Traditional methods. The Board defines this as seminars or symposiums that provide for direct interaction between the speaker and the participants (e.g., in-person conferences or real-time interactive webinars).
• Online/Self-Study Limit: A maximum of 6 hours can be obtained through Non-Traditional methods. This includes self-paced online courses, recorded webinars, or journal studies where there is no real-time interaction.
• Reporting Year: CEUs must be earned between April 1st of the previous year and March 31st of the current renewal year.
• Mandatory Topics: There are currently 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no specific ethics or medical error requirement). Courses must simply be relevant to the practice of respiratory care.

Kansas License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire annually on March 31st.
2. Renewal Window: The renewal period typically opens on February 15th.
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts (KSBHA) online licensee portal.
4. Fees: The online renewal fee is approximately $67.00 - $70.00.
5. Late Renewal: If you renew between April 1st and April 30th, you will be charged a late fee (typically an additional $5.00).
6. Reinstatement: If you fail to renew by April 30th, your license is canceled. You must then apply for Reinstatement, which requires a higher fee and proof of CEUs.
