Indiana Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

15 Hours every 2 years - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 15 contact hours of acceptable continuing education are required every renewal period (biennium).
• Traditional/Live Hours: A minimum of 7.5 hours must be obtained through traditional methods. Indiana defines this by exclusion: the regulations state that *no more* than 7.5 hours can be from correspondence or distance learning.
• Online/Self-Study Limit: A maximum of 7.5 hours can be obtained through non-traditional methods (correspondence courses, self-paced online modules).
• Mandatory Topics: There are currently 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no specific ethics requirement) for Respiratory Therapists in Indiana. Courses must simply be relevant to the practice of respiratory care.
• Relevant Content: Allowable subjects include management of respiratory care practice, courses enabling you to teach other practitioners or patients, and general clinical practice topics.

Indiana License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire on December 31st of every even-numbered year (e.g., 2024, 2026).
2. Renewal Window: The renewal period typically opens 60-90 days prior to the expiration date (October/November).
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA) online service (MyLicense.IN.gov).
4. Fees: The renewal fee is $50.00. (Late renewals typically incur an additional $50.00 penalty).
5. Audit: The Committee conducts random audits. You must retain your CE certificates for at least 4 years (two full renewal cycles) to prove compliance if selected.
6. Carry-Over: You cannot carry over excess hours from one renewal cycle to the next.
