Idaho Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

12 Hours every 1 year - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 12 contact hours of continuing education are required annually.
• Online/Self-Study: Idaho does not limit the number of hours taken through online or home-study courses. You may complete all 12 hours via approved online methods (e.g., AARC approved webcasts or self-paced courses).
• Mandatory Topics: There are currently 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no ethics or patient safety requirement) for standard renewal. Courses must simply be germane to the practice of respiratory care.
• Approved Sponsors: Courses approved by the AARC (American Association for Respiratory Care) are automatically accepted. The Board also accepts attending/presenting at seminars and formal coursework.
• Documentation: You are not required to submit certificates with your renewal unless audited. You must retain your CE records for at least 3 years.

Idaho License Renewal Process

1. Major Change Alert (May 2025): The Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) is transitioning from a fixed annual cycle to a Birthday-based Biennial (2-Year) cycle starting May 19, 2025.
2. Transition Schedule: - Born in an ODD Year (e.g., 1985): When you renew in 2025, you will pay for a 2-year license that expires on your birthday in 2027. - Born in an EVEN Year (e.g., 1986): When you renew in 2025, you will pay for a 1-year license that expires on your birthday in 2026. In 2026, you will switch to the 2-year cycle.
3. Current Expiration: Until the transition affects you, licenses generally expire on June 30th.
4. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Idaho DOPL Online Services portal.
5. Fees: - Annual Fee: ~$65.00 - Biennial Fee (New): ~$130.00 (Fees double to cover the 2-year period).
6. Late Renewal: Failure to renew by the expiration date (or new birthday deadline) will result in license cancellation and may require reinstatement fees.
