Florida Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

24 Hours every 2 years - Total CE requirement for license renewal

Total Requirement: 24 contact hours of continuing education are required every renewal period.
Online/Self-Study: Florida does not limit the number of hours taken through online or home-study courses. You may complete all 24 hours via approved online methods (e.g., AARC approved or Florida Board approved providers).
Mandatory Topics (Recurring): You must complete the following specific topics every cycle: - 2 Hours in Prevention of Medical Errors. - 2 Hours in Florida Laws and Rules (Must be Board-approved). - 20 Hours in General Respiratory Care (Clinical or Non-Clinical).
First Renewal Requirement: - HIV/AIDS: You must complete a 3-hour course in HIV/AIDS for your first renewal only. (This counts toward your total).
Human Trafficking: A 1-hour course on Human Trafficking was a one-time statutory requirement due by Jan 1, 2021. If you are a new licensee who has not yet taken it, you may need to complete it once.
CE Broker: Florida is a mandatory CE Broker state. You must report all hours to CE Broker. You cannot renew your license until your CE Broker transcript shows 100% compliance.

Florida License Renewal Process

Expiration Date: Licenses expire on May 31st of every odd-numbered year (e.g., 2025, 2027).
Renewal Window: The renewal period typically opens 90 days prior to the expiration date.
Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Florida Department of Health (MQA Online Services) portal.
Fees: The standard renewal fee is approximately $120.00.
CE Broker Check: Before you log in to MQA to pay, verify your status in CE Broker. If CE Broker says 'Incomplete,' the MQA system may block your renewal.
First Renewal Exemption: - If you were licensed in the second half of the biennium (on or after June 1st of the even-numbered year), you are exempt from the 24-hour general requirement. You only need to complete 7 Hours total: 2 Medical Errors, 2 Laws & Rules, and 3 HIV/AIDS.
