Connecticut Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

10 Hours every 1 year - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 10 contact hours of qualifying continuing education are required annually (every year).
• Live/Real-Time Requirement: You must complete at least 5 hours of 'Real-Time' education. This includes in-person conferences or live interactive webinars where you can communicate with the presenter during the session.
• Home Study/Self-Paced Limit: A maximum of 5 hours can be obtained through non-interactive, self-paced, or home-study courses (e.g., recorded videos, journal articles).
• Mandatory Topics: There are currently 0 specific mandatory course topics (e.g., no ethics or patient safety requirement) for Respiratory Care Practitioners. The content must simply be directly related to respiratory therapy and reflect professional needs.
• Qualifying Activities: Courses approved by the AARC (American Association for Respiratory Care), regionally accredited higher education institutions, or state/local health departments are accepted.

Connecticut License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire Annually in the licensee's Birth Month.
2. Renewal Window: Renewal notices are typically mailed or emailed 60 days prior to expiration.
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) eLicense portal.
4. Fees: The standard annual renewal fee is approximately $105.00.
5. First Renewal Exemption: A licensee applying for renewal for the first time is exempt from continuing education requirements for that initial period.
6. Audit: The Department does not review courses beforehand but conducts audits. You must retain your CE certificates for at least 5 years. If requested, you must submit them to the Department.
