Arizona Respiratory Therapy CE Requirements

20 Hours every 2 years - Total CE requirement for license renewal

• Total Requirement: 20 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are required every renewal cycle.
• Live Requirement: You must complete at least 5 hours of 'Live' training. This can include in-person workshops or real-time interactive webinars where you can communicate with the presenter during the session.
• Online/Self-Study Limit: A maximum of 15 hours can be obtained through non-traditional methods such as pre-recorded videos, online text-based courses, or self-study modules.
• Ethics Requirement: You must complete 2 hours of Ethics. These hours are part of the total 20-hour requirement.
• Board Meeting Attendance: *Important Update:* As of October 2025, the Board has temporarily suspended the granting of CEUs for attending Board meetings until further notice.
• Advanced Life Support: You may claim a maximum of 5 hours total (combined) for initial or renewal certifications in ACLS, PALS, NRP, or NALS. (e.g., You cannot claim 5 hours for ACLS *and* 5 hours for PALS in the same cycle; the cap is 5 hours total for this category).
• Excluded Courses: Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) courses are not accepted for CEU credit.

Arizona License Renewal Process

1. Expiration Date: Licenses expire every 2 years on the Licensee's Birthday. (Check your specific wallet card for the exact year).
2. Renewal Window: You can renew your license up to 60 days before your birthday expiration date.
3. Online Portal: Renewal is completed through the Arizona State Board of Respiratory Care Examiners online licensee portal.
4. Fees: The online renewal fee is approximately $153.00 (subject to change).
5. Verification: Submitting the payment provides immediate verification of receipt, but the renewal is not official until the Board reviews and approves the application.
6. Late Renewal: If you fail to renew by your birthday, you have a grace period to renew late, but you will incur a late fee. If significantly overdue, you may need to re-apply as a new applicant.
